ELCA CoF Excursion in Brno 30/05/24 - 02/06/24

ELCA's first CoF Excursion of 2024 took place in Brno, Czech Republic.

No doubt: this is already one of the ELCA highlights of 2024. The professional excursions in Brno, kindly organized by our colleagues of the Czech Republic, were a great success. From May 31st till June 2nd, we have seen top of the bill green projects, spoken to innovative green entrepreneurs, learned about the vocational training system for landscapers and gardeners and enjoyed the Czech hospitality.

It was already the idea to go to Czech Republic a few years ago, but due to COVID that was not possible. The kind offer of our Czech colleagues to come for a visit remained on the agenda and could be recently realized. Brno, located in the region of Moravia in the south of the Czech Republic, was the place to be.

On the first day we met a member of our Czech association: Kvӗt. The owner of the company explained about the way is company is organized and showed us around. Our next stop was at LIKO-Vo where we heard about the production of green walls and got the chance to see some great examples. The dean of the Faculty of Horticulture of Mendel University welcomed us in the afternoon. He gave us an overview of vocational training programs at his university and the available facilities. Nice to know is that our Czech colleague Jana Šimečkova is also teacher there. Last destination on the first day was Lenice Park. This is an impressive historical site, where we learned about the history and hidden secrets of the hidden park.

On the second day we met the deputy mayor of Brno during our visit to the renovated park on the Moravian Square. It is very impressive to see what this green space does with the people living in the city. The work is amazingly done. The same counts for the project, done by our Presidium representative Michael Svoboda. He showed us a renovation of a 1920’s courtyard. A real green oasis. In the afternoon a visit to the open gardens were on the agenda. Here we gathered more information about a partnership program that offers grants and educates in the open gardens to help to reduce the impact of climate change. Two private gardens concluded the program of the professionals' excursions. Let’s say; we saw come true what we can only dream about!

We want to thank our Czech colleagues for the wonderful event in Brno! It will be with warm memories in our mind!
